My name is Joshua vanderVeen, I attended the Governor’s School for the Arts for vocal music in 2013. I believe that this program is where I fell in love with the arts. Since then, I have been getting involved in any way I can. I been to other summer programs since, such has The Washington Nation Opera Institute for Young Singers, the Barrow Group Summer Acting Intensive in New York, and this summer I will be attending the Walden School’s Creative Musicians Retreat in New Hampshire.
I am currently a Junior at Anderson University where I am double majoring in theatre and music. My goal is to continue in grad school and earn an MM or MFA in music composition. I have many other opportunities such as performing in a number of productions, helping to design productions, and write music for productions, as well as continuing the legacy of the summer arts intensive by teaching music to 8-14 year olds.
Through the governor’s school, I was able to meet many talented artist I am still connected to today as well as learn an appreciation for other art forms. I am so grateful for being admitted to the governor’s school and for the inspiration in the arts it has brought me.
