ALIAS is a nonprofit chamber ensemble dedicated to an innovative repertoire, artistic excellence, and a desire to give back to the community. Its wide-ranging repertoire brings Nashville audiences a mix of chamber music that cannot be heard anywhere else.

ALIAS was founded in 2002 by a group of Nashville Symphony Musicians looking for a way to perform chamber music while giving back to the community. For 14 years, every concert raised funds for an area non-profit.
Now we focus on our own educational outreach program: ALIAS In the Community
Our Mission

ALIAS is a nonprofit chamber ensemble dedicated to an innovative repertoire, artistic excellence, and a desire to give back to the community. Its wide-ranging repertoire brings Nashville audiences a mix of chamber music that cannot be heard anywhere else.
ALIAS In the Community

Each ALIAS in the Community (AIC) performance features a select group of musicians who bring new and ageless classical music to the community in a variety of imaginative educational programs.

One afternoon a string quartet works with young music students at the W.O. Smith School; another day brings a program for Nashvillians in substance abuse recovery that explores how six cellists work together in performance. ALIAS knows no boundaries in the ways music can change lives.

ALIAS is pleased to continue its partnership with students and faculty at Whitsitt Elementary and Inglewood Elementary in Nashville, Tennessee, to present monthly programming based on ALIAS’ innovative concert repertoire. This continues a long tradition of ALIAS in the Community.

In 2018, ALIAS partnered with the Nashville Ballet to bring an innovative new program to schools in Nashville, which combined chamber music with dance. Teaching Artists from both ALIAS and the Ballet guided children through improvisatory dance experiences, set to music played by ALIAS members.

In the summer of 2017, ALIAS joined the Scholars of Nashville Freedom schools, sharing new ways to experience chamber music through improvisational games.

ALIAS is proud to have shared memorable programs with students and adults in schools and organizations around the area including:

Whitsitt Elementary School
Nashville Freedom School Partnership
Tennessee School for the Blind
W.O. Smith Community Music School
Outlook Nashville
The Renewal House
Foundations of Nashville
Mending Hearts
Virtual School at Vanderbilt
